Sedation FAQs
What
is "Laughing Gas"?
Nitrous Oxide is affectionately known as "laughing gas".
It is used to alleviate anxiety during your dental visit. It is
administered with a nose piece and you breathe Oxygen combined
with Nitrous Oxide gas. You never lose consciousness and are never "out
of control", but you don't care too much about what's going
on. It's great if you're really worried about dental treatment.
What
is Halcion?
Also known as "Triazolam", Halcion is provided to induce
a near-sleep state for patients that encounter strong anxiety.
What
is Ativan?
Also known as "Lorazepam", Ativan is used to relieve
anxiety prior to a dental procedure.
Will
I fall asleep?
While you will not be sedated with the intention of sleep induction,
you may at times fall asleep due to the deep relaxation.
Will
I have an I.V.?
Edgewood Dental does not offer intravenous sedation. Concious sedation
is a proven method that is widely used.
Can
I drive home?
Driving yourself home will not be an option when you have been
administered sedation medication such as Ativan or Halcion.
